Materials: Titanium
Titanium is a metallic element that is well known for its resistance to corrosion and its high strength / weight ratio. It is light, hard, with a low density. In its pure state it is quite ductile, glossy, of a metallic white color.
Titanium processing
Titanium can be easily processed, if its physical and chemical characteristics are taken into account in production. These factors are vitally important for the successful handling of titanium processing.
The most important thing is that the different grades of titanium, namely, commercially pure titanium and various titanium alloys, do not have identical processing characteristics, just like all other materials.
In general, the good working life and quality can be guaranteed by the rigidity of the machine, by the good fixing, by the use of a good refrigerant, by the use of cutting tools, by lower speeds, and by more important advances.
Titanium grades
Pure titanium
Grade 1
Grade 1
Denomination: | Grade 1 |
Property: | More ductile form of commercially pure Titanium, high resilience, excellent resistance to corrosion. It is also the shape available with the greatest formability features. |
Application: | Biomedical, automotive, marine, architecture and chemical applications (anodization, desalination plants and various chemical processing). |
Grade 3
Grade 3
Denomination: | Grade 3 |
Property: | Characteristics similar to the two previous degrees with similar properties of ductility but slightly less deformable. |
Application: | Aerospace, chemical, offshore, biomedical industry. |
Grade 2
Grade 2
Denomination: | Grade 2 |
Property: | Most common commercial form with optimum characteristics of weldability, formability, ductility and corrosion resistance. |
Application: | Offshore, petrochemical industry, biomedical, chemistry, architecture, etc. |
Grade 4
Grade 4
Denomination: | Grade 4 |
Property: | Stronger form of the commercially pure Ti with excellent resistance to corrosion, weldability and formability, it is used for this field in fields with more aggressive chemical / physical conditions. |
Application: | Pickling systems, industrial autoclaves, heat exchange systems, condensers, biomedical industry. |
Titanium alloys
Grade 7
Grade 7
Denomination: | Grade 7 |
Property: | Pure titanium with interstitial palladium (commercially comparable to Grade 2 but chemically an alloy). Excellent weldability and corrosion resistance higher than all Titanium alloys. |
Application: | Chemical and process industry. |
Ti6Al-4V (Grade 5)
Ti6Al-4V (Grade 5)
Denomination: | Ti6Al-4V (Grade 5) |
Property: | Commercially more common alloy designed to be thermally treated (welding), low specific weight and excellent formability and corrosion resistance. |
Application: | Biomedical industry, aerospace, auto motive, structural components, off shore platforms, chemical industry, automatic components, sports facilities, etc. |
